This year some has changed. Just a small detail but with big impact! It is my first Christmas break which isn’t a real break, because I do have to work from 28th till 30th. Okay, as it is holiday season, there was not much to do, but still I had to get up early. I took the chance to work on my final thesis, which is near completion. I hopefully will hand the whole thesis to my professor in the second week of January. Then it shouldn’t take that long, because he read already 70 pages of it and should easily review the missing 20 pages. Therefore, I am expecting to obtain my degree in February and the ceremony should take place in March 11th or 12th.
At the moment there is a more important event coming on – the New Year’s Eve! This year, I used the long weekend to make it a Christmas present to Nadine. It includes the trip to Sabine & Bernd, with whom we will celebrate in Milan. Moreover, we even will have the chance to watch Bernd’s game on January 3rd and have some time to show Nadine the city along with expensive boutiques, where she definitely will start dreaming. Therefore, I am lucky to still be a student – excuse-vice! :-D
So Happy New Year to all m friends & family!

Will be back on January 4th to make all the kissing and hugging!

TripIt for Travels - iPhone, Mac and PC

TripIt is a website, where you can manage and aggregate your travel activities and see your friends’ one. It is really consumer friendly by accepting booking confirmations, which you forward to a certain e-mail address. I started it yesterday, and could easily add past trips within few numbers. In this matter, my Gmail account was very helpful, because I never have deleted any mails since I joined Google-community.

There are more features:

  1. You easily can create your own iCal “TripIt” and subscribe it with your iPhone, iCal or Google Calendar. Moreover, you can send it to your family to share your trips, that everybody knows your arrival and departure times respectively.

  2. Add the app TripIt to your iPhone and sync all your web content to your mobile device.

  3. You receive a nice statistic about your travel activities and records. You could compete with your friends, if you wish...

  4. With another iPhone App “Flighttrack Pro” you even can get pushed notification if your flight is cancelled or has a delay.

To summarize it, you easily can add your flight details to your calendar, which makes it very convenient, because you don’t have to type any flight track numbers or times into your calendar.

And eveything for free!

Barcelona

It was my first visit to Barcelona and my first trip to Spain since I was 5 years old. So you can imagine how excited I was to spend some time in one of the most famous cities on earth!
After a 4 hour delay at the Vienna Airport, we arrived late in Barcelona and due to the trip back from Croatia the day before, we were really tired and went just for a quick bite close to the hotel. Our hotel was quite in a good position for our desired beach vacation and a city trip. We just had 200m to “la Rambla” and around 1 km to the beach. So it was perfect for sightseeing and relaxing.

City & Beach

Overall, we knew that the city is great and the historic buildings and parks are great, especially Parc Guell and la Sagrada Familia, but as you can imagine, in middle of summer the city was packed with tourists and so we skipped entering buildings. As Barca is a big city, there was no doubt, that the beach would be more crowded than the Croatian coves, but anyway, better a crowded beach as a boring public swimming center in Burgenland.

Food

Usually I always find the right places to get good, but cheap food, but this time we were not that lucky. First, we took some tapas at a restaurant on la Rambla, where we thought that the plates will costs just 2 instead of 5,-, what changed price for the small lunch snack by 20,-, and still starving! Further, a lot of recommended food places were closed because of renovation. Then we tried out a highly recommended restaurant, where we should eat the best Paella in town. It was not bad, but not worth the money we paid. The last night in Barca, Nadine had the desire for a big meat – really, it was Nadine’s idea – but got disappointed by an Entrecote with a lot of fat strips in it. But in the end, we found our greatest place at one of the beach bars, where we had our daily cocktails of the day.

Greatest Place

Was definitely the beach bar, where we had great food, music and drinks. Especially, when a waiter started to speak Austrian: “schleichti oida”. He was a Mexican, who had a girlfriend from Graz. Was quiet funny to hear such words in such bar.
On the way home, we had again a delay, which made up for the arrival delay, because we knew in advance that our plane will leave later to Bratislava instead of Vienna. So, we didn’t have any disadvantages of that change.

Resume

It was a great trip with Schnucki and the right place to end summer 2009!

Back to blogging

Quiet a long time ago, but during my hard time writing for my last hurdle of my degree. I rather spent my time where I didn’t read or write without typing. So now, as I still have some pages to accomplish, I am back with some News. Even better, I am going to try to recap what happened last few months.

First, Nadine and I spent some days in Croatia on the isle Rab, where I had been in May already. Nothing changed to my good opinion towards Rab and its wonderful coves! This time we even had a big experience by a big rubber tube! Nadine’s father pulled us by boat through the Adriatic Sea. Unfortunately, we had to leave Croatia after few days, because we had to catch our pre-booked flight to Barcelona operated by Sky Europe. It was one of the last flights, which took off from Vienna – just with a 4 hour delay, but still took off. But our flight back arrived in Bratislava, which wasn’t a big problem, because Nadine’s father picked us up at the Slovakian airport and by car it was just a 20 min delay, because it just takes 5 min from landing to leaving the airport.

After the vacations, I was back on track to write some pages for my final thesis, but there was not much time, because next event was close. I decided to work at the INFORM for dieBank as a Barkeeper, which was very exhausting on one side, but made a lot of fun on the other side.

By first of September I replaced Tina in the Gunners office, because she went on maternity leave. 20 hours a week didn’t sound that much, but ending up working almost twice as agreed, took me completely out of my writing rhythm. Anyway, it made a lot of fun to work for the club, where I helped out already in summer 2006. Knowing what things have to be done and being familiar with the structure and the workflows, I could integrate myself really easy.

Since November I am doing an internship at the Deutsche Bank in the Global Markets Department. My contract will last until End of February and I am desperate to stay in this sector for my future career. Beside the job I am trying to help out the club concerning administration. So still quite busy all the time, but who cares about watching TV and a lot of sleep. The only thing what I would like to do is working myself out, but there is no time for it, yet.

At the moment, I finished 71 pages of my 85-page final thesis. So now I am entering the last curve in a long a... run.

In my next few reports I will do a more detailed recap.

Regards

Hannes

Translation of Bernd's Interview

For everybody who doesn't speak Italian, read "Google Translation":

Translation: Italian » English
PAVIA. It 'the first time since Italy is that Bernd Volcic played two seasons in a row in the same team. Previously, it had only happened in the Belgian Archbishop Target? Win and improve. "I presented at the rally after toiling away - says the Austrian Center - I worked with weights at the gym, I ran and tried to perfect the technique, but after two weeks of training are tired." Raffaele De coach yesterday granted half a day of rest to the team.
"The preparation needed to be ready when the season begins - emphasizes Volcic - Last year we won more in the preseason, then went how it went. At this stage of the season do not count the results, but only to work hard, create a group and understand what the coach wants. "
It will be a new "race". "We have a small team of choice of the coach, who likes to play with four external and one long-running and make the blocks. For this we need to focus on speed, be prepared to take more and more opponents. For the second year Bernd plays near Ticino. "We quickly found the deal, I wanted to stay and the company wanted to keep me. President Gianmarco Bianchi is an honest man with whom I feel. Another reason is that my wife works at Sergio Rossi of Milan. The objective of Bernd and improve. 'It is necessary to attain salvation, then we'll see. I think the difference will make the details because it will be a balanced league. We have a right mix of experience and youth, and when we find a way to stay in camp, we'll take different satisfactions. Personally I am not happy with what I did last year, I know I can do more and better. " The basis of these is the last year. "It 'important, we know what the coach wants and he is easier with 5 players who already know him, because we can help other." Volcic for two years and entered the Faculty of Economics, University of Hamburg. "I think the future. I like discovering new cities and new dishes. I prefer the meat, I love Florence. I like exploring new places with driving slow food.

Wedding Andy & Sissy

Since I didn't make any pictures at the wedding, I wanted to wait until I receive some official, but it seems that it takes longer than expected.

As you can imagine, a wedding of a family member is always nice and great. Why? Because you now the majority of the guests and you don't have to feel always wrong in place. That's the good part, but the other side is a lot of work, if the couple believes a wedding up on a hill, Hannersberg, in a tent is better than booking a hotel where everything will be prepared for you. So, as it turned out Andy's brother, me!!!, had to work his a… off. Sounds familiar! So I had a hard time, but also 4 great days of celebrating a wedding - 2 days official and 1 unofficial bachelor party and the wedding itself. :-D the result was a lot of fun, gaining some kilos and a free pass for the next months to stay at the mansion in Neustiftgasse 131.

Take care,

Hannes

iPhone & MobilMe - Do not let Apple fool you

Yes Mobilme is a great thing! Especially if you have a Mac and an iPhone, because then you can use the full power of it, but nevertheless it is not 79,-€ worth it. I will tell you the reasons:

You can get everything with Google for free - Picture upload, online Storage or pushing your calendar wireless. Yesterday, I canceled my Tryout-Period of MobileMe and it took me about 30 mins to adjust my GMail and GCalendar to use it instead of MobileMe.

1)GMail
Has already IMAP - so you don't need the energy consuming Push-Service

2)GCalendar
is the intermediate we need to update your calendar wireless. First you import your iCal Calendars to your GCalendar by exporting them and importing them. Then you use the "Calaboration" to get your GCalendar on your iCal. Now you can delete your "only-on-your-mac" Calendar. You will not see any difference than before!

3)Exchange Server
Over the Microsoft Exchange Server you can add your Calendar and your Contacts of GMail to your iPhone. They also can be pushed!

So I decided to use only the Calendar for real time exchange and keep the contacts synced over iTunes, but when I do it, iTunes syncs the Contacts also with google. So you always have all your contacts up to date!

Of Course MobileMe is much easier and takes you only few seconds, but it costs you money and might be worthless in few months if you change your mobile for example!

so check out the wonderful Apps of Google!

c u soon!

Doing Sport in a different way

Yesterday, Nadine and I wanted to lift some weights. As we entered the gym in Oberschützen, I had the idea of warming up without weights on the court. So we played some volleyball and ended up playing around with the "Hulahup-Rim". Unfortunately my iPhone has no video-function. So I cannot show you how good Nadine is in it! :-D

We don't wanna mention my performance... :-(

Take care

On The Boat - Croatia from a different perspective

Last week, from Tuesday till Monday, Nadine's father and me were on the Croatian island Rab, where he has an motorboat for more than 20 years. It was my first time to have a chance to see it and getting the feeling to be free of crowded beaches and noise. As nobody else had time to join him, I didn't rethink twice and accepted the offer!

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we prepared the boat after a long time out of the water for its first "sea-mission" in 2009. The rest of the week we used the time to relax, drink a little bit, meet old friends of Gerald and of course have some great seafood. As Gerald spends a lot of his spare time, he knows a lot of good places for dinner.

Making a trip on a boat is really a special thing, because you are almost free as camping, but camping is already regulated to specific areas, where you have to stay. With a boat you can throw the anchor almost everywhere as long you are safe! Moreover you have access to bays where just few people have access to it.

It was really a big experience for me and I hope to get another chance soon!

Consulting & Basketball

Tomorrow, I will attend the career day of Deloitte to apply for a position in the business consulting department. so let's see how it goes! Afterward, I might go to the Basketball game to Wels, where the Gunners have the chance to move to the semifinals with a victory.

A Place to Sleep - II

After some problems with the paint, Mum got somebody paint it again. So it took longer than expected, but now after new floor, new paint and new furniture, the room just looks wonderful! really! it is no match to the old room. Sabine will be surprised when she got back home once! Of course the small details like a holder for the curtains, - don't know the certain name for it! - is missing, but that has to wait until I have time for it!

Tool Time is now over and the real final thesis time is comin' up!!!

A Place to Sleep - I

But enough with my reporting on my new toy! A lot more important is that my mum will soon have a new place to sleep and store her tonns of clothes and other things woman have to buy! She agreed that I will be responsible for the complete renovation. So I started to through everything out of the room, clean the spots from deep cuts and clean after the neighbour put the wires into the wall, where they cannot be seen anymore! Now I am in the stage of putting the finish on the walls and start preparing the floor! Tomorrow I will take a picture of the „greeny“ room. Yes green, because Irene loves green and the enviroment is also green so Irene decided to have more green in her life! No I am just kidding. I have no glue, why she choosed green, but I thing it can match with the new furniture and nice curtains to get a new sleeping experience. After she didn’t changed the rooms for more than thirty years!

The Apple has him

It is my first time to write on my brand new MacBook Unibody. I bought it last week, but due to some problems with my car and the beginning of the renovation of my mum’s room, I was too busy to work me through! So now it is the first time I am laying in my bed and play around with it. Of course, I used the time to transfer 90% of my data from my ancient windows notebook to this stylisch, fast and completely silent MacBook! It is really incredible what time can bring. First i wasn’t sure if I should invest so much money for a thing, which will cause me more more headache and more time to spent in front of the computer. But now I am totally convinced that I made the right choice.

Everything should be done by 1st September....

Wish you all a lot of eggs! Or rather more thick steaks, which are more likely after the nice forecast for the next days!

Broadway in Oberschützen – „Der Brandner Hias und d'Ewigkeit“

Last Friday, Nadine and I watched the play "Der Brandner Hias und d'Ewigkeit" in Oberschützen. It is played in SoBu slang and the actors are amateurs, where most of them are teachers in one of the high schools in the same town. Some of them I had in school, but that was not the only reason to attend the play. Rather my aunt Inge, who is playing one of the main characters. I think it is the fourth year they are playing, so they are quiet experienced. It was really funny and we enjoyed the evening.

We are looking forward to see another wonderful play next year!

Graduation Party Part II

As I mentioned in my latest post, Nadine and I were invited to the graduation party of Philipp, nephew of Sissy. On the way to downtown Graz we made a stop at Shopping Center Seiersberg to satisfy the shopping fever of Nadine. :-D Afterwards, we checked in the "Das Weitzer" which is a nice old hotel close to the city center of Graz. We intended to have dinner at Aiola, but the kitchen was closed due to restructuring, reopening April 15th. So we had no time to search for a long time, because of a starving Hannes, we couldn't waste time! ;-) I had a wonderful steak at the "Herzerl Stubn" and Nadine a special kind of "Schnitzel" with pumpkin seeds. Then we headed to M1-Bar where the party took place. We meet a lot of Philipp's friends and his family. We really enjoyed the night and had a lot of fun! On the way home we had to make a stop for a big hot dog. Actually we had to get two, because the first one was a little bit cold and not Nadine refused this one – she is a really big fan of Hotdogs!!! – so we made a stop at the next hotdog stand to grab another one, but this time the temperature wasn't the problem rather the sausage, which was a Bratwurst. So Nadine was disappointed again, but she was too hungry to refuse it! On the next day, we had an awesome brunch at the Aiola Schlossberg with a wonderful view over Graz and with sunny 15°C.

Unfortunately such weekends always end to fast! So we had to go back to SoBu for studying and some more coffee…

Working!

Last weekend I was completely occupied with working. I was working as a waiter at the MotoMotion in Oberwart, which is a fair for cars, bikes and everything which can be related to it. As it was a success I was really busy! Now I am tired and happy to have it passed.

Before I forget, on Friday there was a Graduation Party of Manuel in Stinatz. It was a very funny party with cold meet and a lot of beer! ;-) Unfortunately, I was not very long, because of working on the next day, but still I enjoyed an "Austrian-croatian" celebration.

Tomorrow morning I will meet with my professor to discuss the register of my final thesis.

Good night and take care,

Hannes

One night in (Rio) Vienna

I spent the last night in Vienna, because of an interview, which worked out quiet good. Now, I have to send them my grades to get invited for second round. In the afternoon I played Tim Taylor and fixed mounting for the curtains in the kitchen of the apartment of Sissy & Andy. One of several things I have done so far, which earned me the title of "Hausbesorger". Sounds pretty awkward to be a caretaker, but as I had to pay in some way my rent for staying with them, I am rather honored with the title. Afterwards we had a late lunch at Schilling, an old Vienna cuisine close to the apartment.

Then I had my next meeting at the department for student affairs to get my American grades for good. I could finish the process for my Irvine classes, but they still want me to send them a new transcript of Berkeley, which would cost me around 50€. Lets see what the head of the department thinks about it?! ;-) The best thing about Berkeley is, that I would get 5 Semesterstunden, it's the Austrian form of credits, for each lesson, which would mean that I have done Irvine for nothing and 2 other classes, because usually a class is worth 2 Semesterstunden, but due to the workload in Berkeley it counts far more. So now you can see, that I wasn't joking in the summer, when I was studying my ass off! Nevertheless, I just have 4 Semesterstunden left, so I will only take each class for 2 SS each.

In the evening, I met with current UCI students and the replacement of mine next fall quarter in Irvine. It was a really nice chat and I hope I could help them a little bit to tackle all the obstacles they might face.

Today, I was for a great breakfast in my favorite café next to the University – "The Roast" and then it was the big time for Manuel, who was honored with his "Magister" degree (masters). Thanks to the long days next to him in the library I was invited to the ceremony which was followed by champagne and a lunch at a restaurant in Vienna. Still full with "Cordon Bleue" and beer, I am lying in front of the TV back home in SoBu.

I wish all of you a great rainy weekend!

Austrian Carnival And Many More

On Tuesday it was the last day of this season's carnival - called "Fasching" in Austria. As I am not a typical fan of such "must-be-funny-days", I joined the party rather late at 4.30 at Oberwart Main street. After some hot wine, I drove to Stegersbach, where my girlfriend was the "Carnival Princess 2009" and Ado and I picked her up. We had lot of fun at P2 and Braumönch, where Laky was working this night. Around 9.30 I drove back home to leave my girl alone for some dancing.

Wednesday, I was working all day for dieBank to get the restaurant back to normal business after the Carnival mess. On the next day, I spend all day with my final thesis and some relaxing with Nadine. Friday was a lot of fun with the guys from St. Michael, who Peter and I visited for some German Beer and some "Unicum", the Hungarian national drink – fu… disgusting!!! Saturday, I worked again on my final thesis and had some coffee with my guys. Nadine and I spent the night at Thermal Stegersbach.

All in all, an ordinary week of my life! Including coughing and sniffing!

Hamburg – Pick Up My Car

Sunday, my mother and I took the night train to Hamburg and next morning we had a transfer to Bremerhaven. There I had to deal with the plates and the insurance for the car. Due to good preparation in advance it took only few minutes to get a 5-day-pass. With plates and insurance we headed to the freighting company, where I picked up my car. Unfortunately, it has one scratch, which hopefully can be polished. It was amazing how many cars every week get imported. This week around 20 ships arrived. In summer it was 180. Unbelievable how many took advantage of the good exchange rate. After the process we stopped in the city centre of Bremerhaven to have a "Frigatellen-Brötchen", which is comparable with a burger. It is really delicious! With a full belly we could start our journey back to Hamburg.

We arrived at our Hotel around 6 o clocks in the evening – we stayed at the Marriott in the middle of the city – Thanks to Alex! After quick shower and relaxing, we started to look for a dinning place. After endless walking, I asked for a restaurant and we were lucky. We were recommended a great place with typical local food. I had "Labskaus" and my mum had some fish with mustard. After some drinks at the hotel bar, we fell in our beds for a long nice sleep.

On the next day, we started our hardcore sightseeing-tour with a harbor-tour by boot and afterwards a tour with a bus. This compared with a lot of walking in between made us hungry and tired – the question is when I am not hungry?! ;-) We really enjoyed the city, because the sun was shining but it was chilly. I don't want to mention all the details about the city, because I think it is more about the atmosphere, which makes it so impressive. Of course I have to mention the "Reeperbahn" as one of the most famous party miles on earth, but as it was Tuesday and freezing it was not much going on there. The clean and shiny streets, fleets and bridges make Hamburg one of my favorite cities. On Wednesday we visited the museum for local history, which showed us the development of the city. Our last point on the sightseeing list was a Russian submarine.

At 8 pm, I had to drive my car to the train to get it transported in the rear of it. My mum and I had it comfortable in the front in a nice bed. Yes, you are right. One moment I was thinking of staying in my car, but with freezing temperature it was an easy decision. :-D

Google Sync

Microsoft has Exchange Server and Apple has it's Mobile Me. Both are great applications to sync wireless your calendar, contacts and mails with your account. Both are pretty expensive and not worth to pay for it as long as you don't have a business or a company pays it for you! Now my favorite company came up with something for free. This is the reason why I love this company so much!

For everybody with an iPhone, 3G or 2G, since few days, the firmware update 2.2.1 is out. It is just a small update to solve some bugfixes and stability of Safari.

Small Guide for jailbroken iPhones. If you still want to use your inofficial Apps like I do, I can recommand you this guide.

1)download "APT Backup" on Cydia - it is a small App which saves the downloaded Apps from Cydia in a directory, where iTunes syncs it on your computer. That means, that all your programms can be installed after a restore or update easy by clicking restore in "APT Backup". So basically you just have to install this app. So install it and run backup.

2) sync with iTunes

3) after successful sync, you can use the update button to install the update. Everything should stay like it is, except the inofficial apps and cydia, and take approximately 5 min.

4) Now you can run this app, which puts Cydia on your iPhone. Here is a link: QuickPwn for Win

5) Install "APT Backup" on Cydia and run restore to get your apps back!

Good Luck with it! and enjoy your precious!

Never Eat @Schloss Hartberg - Gschü

Two weeks ago, Laky, Madlene, Nadine and me had a dinner at castle Hartberg (Schloss Hartberg). It is a nice restaurant with traditional styrian food, which is run by the family Gschiel. It was my forth time, I think, for me to have the delicious food, but finally it will be the last visit ever. I knew before that the female boss, who does the service tend to be drunk and do not behave like a waiter should behave, but the food was always good and if you don't have anything to do this day, it was always worth to wait. But after this Tuesday it was enough! She was really unpolite and never stopped by. She always treated us like dumm people and we felt like not being welcome! Another couple had the same feeling like us and paid after the appertizer, because the female boss didn't come to pick up the dishes. They did the right thing, which we were planning to but finally we received our food without long waiting time, but never received more water. Moreover we were charged for tape water eventhough we had a bottle of wine! I am also sure that she charged us more for the samon. My baked eggs were salty and I got a bad rude answer from Miss Gschiel!

I really can tell you! It is not worth to go there! Food is good, but the owner will destroy your dinner with their drunkiness and rudeness!!!

Save your money and cook something on your own!!!

Best Regards

Games & Beer

Last four days were full with beer and fun. All started with Mondays work out with Uli at Hotel Paierl in Bad Waltersdorf. Afterwards, we headed towards Gleisdorf on a snowy highway. We started with Hefeweizen beer right away and stopped drinking close to midnight.

Tuesday evening I continued with some Ottakringer during the game-session with Fiedi, Hubert & Andy. We played Puerto Rico and we had to give Andy two victories, because he still had toothache from his surgery earlier this day. ;-) I was not pleased with my performance - once last spot and a good second place! Next time I definetely will do better!

Yesterday, I had an interview with Prof. Eschenbach, who will take care of my final thesis. My topic will be "St. Gallener Strategiekonzepte von Ulrich bis Malik". Before I started to read, I had to drink more beer with Gong and Bendesch @Stylez. And after arriving in OW, you can image what I did @Hooters with the guys - of course some more beer!!! :-D So, a lot of beer these days.

Today, it's time to do some sport!

I will now head out for running! Remember the scenic running track in NPB.

English is a nice language

Yesterday was a good day. First I received information about my tax laws classes, where I had the exam beginning of January. I successfully passed the exam and still have the chance of getting an average. The other good thing was my management control exam. It took longer than 2 hours and I have a good feeling about the result. Now I have one week off - J. Next Wednesday I will meet Prof. Eschenbach for a first interview about my final thesis. In February I also have my last classes. From 9th till 12th I will take the logistic classes BLP 2 in only one week. That’s really fast! It is during the “Winter Uni”, which is for students who are really ambitions or need to catch up with the curriculum. I don’t know to which group I belong, but I rather take the course in one week and have everything done…

At latest, you have wondered why I changed my language to English, but I felt like all my friends at home except my family is not paying attention to my blog anymore, because they are in touch with me over the phone or meeting with me face to face. So now I changed my mind and want to address my friends all over the world.

So I say hello to everybody all over the world!

Der Onkel frisst sich durch die Präsentationen

s

Prison Break discontinued after season 4

iPhone 3G & Jailbreak - Must Have Apps

Kleine Spielerei also!

4) SBSettings

2 more & schöner Abend mit Wiederholung

My favorite TV Shows...

Back in Life - Matura, Prüfungen, Lernen

Mmmmhhh...

Wünsch euch noch einen schönen Abend!

Happy 2009!!!

Willkommen in meinem neuen Blog.

Ja! Na was solls!

PROSIT NEUJAHR

Wünsche euch allen ein gesundes, erfolgreiches 2009!!!
